Police officers on the spot after drug suspect freed

Officers at the Kileleshwa Police Station in Nairobi are on the spot after failing to charge suspect arrested for allegedly being in possession of some drugs.
Junior officers at the Kileleshwa are now claiming that some of their seniors may have been compromised in a case that has also dragged in the National Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).
The suspect was arrested by four junior officers from the station on April 28 at around 8.10pm and booked under OB 40/28/04/2024.
According to the OB report, the suspect was allegedly arrested with five sachets of bhang, one half smoked roll of bhang and a cigarette lighter. She was then released on a Sh50,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court, two days later on April 30.
Government chemist
The suspect however failed to turn up at the Station as earlier scheduled with the local Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) Jeremiah Mwenda claiming that the drugs had been taken to the Government Chemist for analysis.
But reports from the Government Chemist indicated otherwise, as there were no samples taken there from Kileleshwa Police Station.
Yesterday when reached for comment, Mwendwa brushed off claims of some of his colleagues having been compromised in the case, insisting that investigations were still going on. “Investigations into certain cases take longer than anticipated. Investigations into this case are going on and once we are through we shall inform you people from the media.
We don’t want to be put under pressure over the case,” Mwenda told the People Daily by telephone. Mwenda said that sometimes samples taken to the Government Chemist for analysis take as long as a year before the results are returned. “And even if the results are to be brought today, we still have to write to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for consent.
