Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Floods situation
Kenyans living in flood-prone areas have been asked to evacuate within 48 hours following the heavy rains expected to continue in different parts of the country.
In a statement, government spokesman Isaac Mwaura urged the targeted individuals to move to alternative accommodation that the government will provide.
“The government urges all citizens to remain vigilant and heed the weather and flood alerts issued regularly by government agencies. The government calls upon Kenyans residing in flood-prone areas to relocate within 48 hours, including areas near dams, water reservoirs, mudslide and landslide-prone areas, and riparian lands. Alternative accommodation will be provided to those affected,” Mwaura assured yesterday.
Blackout
Today’s blackout will affect four counties, Kenya Power has confirmed.
In their statement, the utility company said the temporary outage planned for maintenance purposes will affect Nairobi, Samburu, Nyeri and Kilifi counties.
In Nairobi, the outage will affect part of Peponi Rd, Spring Valley Crescent, Spring Valley Rd, Ola Energy Peponi Rd, Peponi View Plaza & adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.
The outage in Samburu county scheduled to start from 9 am to 5 pm will affect areas such as Posta, Mugie Ranch, Churo, Tangulbei, Suguta Mar Mar, Kisima Centers, the whole of Maralal Town, Maralal Water Supply, Maralal Referral Hosp, Milimani, Poro, Loosuk, Sirata Centers, Poro Radar Stn & adjacent customers.
Similarly, the outage in Nyeri from 8 am to 5 pm will affect Gatugu, Kiriaini Town, Munaini DC’s Office, Kamacharia, Kagumoini, Diara C/Fact, Kanjama, Kora, Kamune, Iruri, Thuita, Kiaga C/Fact, Karuthi C/Fact & Sec, Geitwa, Kariki, Giathugu Iruri Sec, Mairo Mkt, the whole of Witima, Umbui Pri, Gikira Hydro Auxiliary & adjacent customers.
In Kilifi, the outage will affect Kilifi Plantation, Safaricom Mast and adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.
