Gor Mahia players’ dynamism excites Mckinstry
Gor Mahia’s head coach, Johnathan McKinstry has expressed satisfaction with the dynamic players in his squad in the FKF Premier League, emphasizing their importance in the team’s pursuit of a league double.
McKinstry highlighted the versatility of players like Rooney Onyango, who have the ability to excel in multiple positions on the field.

In a post-match interview following a draw against Homeboyz, McKinstry praised Onyango’s adaptability, citing an instance where he seamlessly transitioned to the number eight position after Ernest Wendo sustained a head injury in a previous game.
He also commended Shariff Musa’s proficiency in playing as a number eight and Bryson Wangai’s versatility to fill in at full-back or left wing when needed.
“We know that players can play in different positions, even a few weeks ago, Rooney Onyango finished the game in the no.8 position because Wendo had to come off with a head injury and Rooney went in and did very well,” McKinstry stated.
“He is a dynamic player who can play in multiple positions. Shariff played a little more in the no.8, dropping in and allowing maybe Austin [Odhiambo] a little more freedom. And even Bryson Wangai who is a left-back or left foot,” he added.

However, McKinstry emphasized the importance of consistency, noting that while versatility is valuable, players should ideally have a regular position to avoid confusion.
“We have a lot of guys who are flexible but consistency is also very important,” added McKinstry. “If you are changing people’s positions every week then a little bit of confusion can creep in. It is nice that Rooney gets to play a little more advanced for the national team. In pre-season, we played him more advanced but when it came to the crunch, we decided we will keep him at right-back,” he added.
Gor Mahia willl face Nzoia Sugar in the league next weekend.
