Menengai Oilers to approach Blak Blad match with caution
Menengai Oilers Head Coach Gibson Weru has revealed that they will be approaching the match against Blak Blad with caution.
Oilers will host a stubborn Blak Blad side at Nakuru Showground as the Kenya Cup action heads into week five.
Menengai Oilers streak
The two sides meet at a point when Oilers are on a four-match winning streak including last weekend’s victory against Nakuru RFC.
Blak Blad, on their part have mixed results after losing last weekend to Kisumu RFC and were forced to come from behind for a draw against Nakuru RFC last year.
With Blad having won the last two meetings in this encounter, Gibu thinks there is need to be cautious but he also keen to bring his A-game.
“We are excited by the squad but at the same time we a cautious of a side that has beaten us in the last two encounters so we know what they can bring but we want to give our A-Game on Saturday so I urge all the fans to show up and support the team,” Weru told Oilers media.
The coach is happy with the pre-match preparations and revealed that players dropped this weekend picked knocks against Nakuru.
“We have had a very good week of preparations after a tough encounter with Nakuru RFC last weekend. We have freshened up the squad, most of the changes have been necessitated by the few knocks that we picked, and we just thought that we need to give the guys a bit of a break so that they can recover fully,” he said.
Menengai Oilers changes
There is chance for Clarkson Keegan and Allan Ochieng while former captain Harold Anduvate is back after close to two years of absence.
“We have a few debutants, so we have a mixture of experience and guys who have really lifted their hands in training. Harold starts at 12 for the first time in a very long time, Nixon Ochieng’ also comes into the squad bringing a wealth of experience and physicality. We have also brought in Clarkson Keegan, a young man who is exerting in training and is also exciting,” he stated.
Oilers have 19 points from the opening four matches.
