Burundian star striker Fiston Abdul Razak is among eight players who have been released by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit Sofapaka, People Sports can confirm.

The highly rated 30-year-old goal-getter made a return to Batoto ba Mungu at the start of the current campaign but failed to impress, managing only one goal and has been axed alongside Stephen ‘Fathela’ Okola, Evan Makori, Jacob Osano, David Nishirimana, who was their long-time captain, Nixon Omondi, Oliver Maloba, Simon Ambuko and Burundian defender Mousa Omar who had also returned to the team after three seasons away.

Clarifying the changes, Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa told People Sports the aforementioned players had left the club on mutual agreement. “We reached an agreement from both parties to terminate their contracts, I want to wish them well in their next destination, they have contributed a lot to the growth of Sofapaka and will always be welcomed,” said Kalekwa.

In the same breath, Kalekwa confirmed the club had beefed up their squad with eight new signings as they work out ways to keep their status in the top-flight.

The eight new faces include; Victor Akumu from Dandora FC, Rodgers Kipkemoi from Sunderland AFC Keroche, Victor Okello (Murang’a Seal), Stallone Asaba (Kibera Black Stars), Adan Godana (ASEC Huruma FC), Levis Ochieng (Mathare United), and Nelson Bwakhali and Finlay Osoro both from (Mathare North United).

“We have gone for young players, who will be hungrier to give the team success, and our main aim is to remain in the league, I am confident with the signings we have made and I hope they settle in quickly and give us the desired results,” added Kalekwa.

Batoto ba Mungu have struggled to find their footing this season, a move that saw the club part ways with Burundian coach Francis Haringingo with only six rounds of league matches played. However, a week ago, they settled for Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno as their permanent head coach, and he got his reign off to a perfect start after defeating Bidco United 3-0.

On Sunday, Sofapaka suffered a 3-1 defeat against Tusker to remain rooted at the lower reaches of the 18-team table with 17 points from 18 matches. Meanwhile, KCB, who are sitting seventh on the table with 28 points, have been busy in the transfer window with five new players arriving at the Den.

The five include Henry Onyango, winger Victor Omondi, who is returning to the club after a stint with Rwandese outfit Musanze FC, Collins Neto from Muhoroni Youth, former Bidco United FC center back Francis Oduor and Vincent Ondabu signed from Equity Bank.

Tusker under coach Robert Matano have managed to keep defender Michael Kibwage after he signed a contract extension. “We are delighted to announce that our assistant captain Michael Kibwage has extended his stay with us until the end of the season,” announced the club on their social media pages.
