The Azimio La Umoja coalition has moved to court seeking to have the decision by Speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetangula to recognise Nominated MP Sabina Chege (pictured) as Jubilee Party whip revoked.

In a petition filed at the High Court by the coalition through lawyer Paul Mwangi, the party accuses Wetangula of violating various laws and the Constitution.

Azimio also wants Chege to be compelled by the court to refund all the money she has been paid as the Deputy Minority Whip.

The Opposition coalition led by Raila Odinga now wants retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party to be recognised as a member of the Azimio Coalition.

Azimio seeks to have Wetangula barred from recognising Jubilee as a Parliamentary Party.
Mwangi says Wetangula’s recognition of Jubilee as a Parliamentary Party was illegal and unconstitutional.

“The petitioner (Azimio Coalition) states that the Respondent (Speaker of National Assembly ) action of recognising Jubilee Party as a Parliamentary Party while it’s still part of the Petitioner’s coalition is a personal decision, unconstitutional, with ill motives and intended to cause splitting up in the Petitioner’s coalition,” lawyer Mwangi states.
