Uasin Gishu County has entered into a partnership with the government of Somalia that will see the establishment of more cooperative societies.

Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration hosted a delegation of 17 staff from the Somalia Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, led by Ahmed Keinan.

They are in the county to learn best practices on the co-operatives movement and the successes of the Kenya grain farming co-operatives. The bench-marking is meant to help them improve efficiency and post-harvest management.

Deputy Governor John Barorot, who hosted the delegation on behalf of the governor, thanked the Somalia government for choosing to benchmark with Uasin Gishu saying that their culture (Somali) instils a lot of trust and loyalty calling on them to use it to enrich their people.
