Kenya’s women’s Under-20 coach Beldine Odemba says her team’s game against Angola is not yet over despite having a 6-1 commanding advantage following the first-leg home win against the southern Africa nation.

Odemba says they will approach the second leg in Luanda tomorrow with the same mantra with an objective of registering another win away from home to cement their place in the second round of the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s Cup Qualifiers.

“The team has trained well and we are ready, approaching this game as if it is a new match completely. You cannot be sure of such games until the last minute of the match, the players are ready and they know that we are going for more goals, there is no room for laxity despite our big lead. We know anything can happen while playing away and that is why we are taking the game as a new fixture that we need to start afresh with a huge mentality of getting a win,” Odemba told People Sport.

Three goals from Valerie Nekesa, a brace from Charity Mideva and one from Faith Naliaka ensured Kenya’s huge advantage over the Angolan girls who seemed to struggle with fitness last Sunday at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.

Captain Janet Hato says the team is in good shape ahead of tomorrow’s tie that will be staged at the June 22 Stadium in Rocha Pinto, Luanda.

“The coach has reminded us of the main goal which is to qualify for the World Cup and not only to get a win against Angola.

The way we will face Angola will have an impact on how we will handle our next opponents such as Cameroon. We are ready and we don’t fear anyone who comes in our way. We want to use this game to amend our mistakes from the first leg game and we hope to win again with a bigger margin,” noted captain Hato.
