Woman, 3 children die in Kisii fire incident
Four family members died at Nyakungu village, Bonyando sub-location, Bonchari constituency in Kisii county after their house was razed down on Wednesday night.
Those who perished in the inferno included a woman and her three children. A one year old child who was also in the house is nursing serious injuries.
Kisii county Police Commander, Charles Kases said the fire started shortly after the family retired for the night.
The man of the home, Juma Onderi however managed to escape.
Kases said Onderi’s wife, identified as Caroline Marumbo was rushed to Nyangena hospital where she succumbed, adding that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
“We have commenced an investigation to know the cause of the fire. The father and his child survived and are recuperating at Kisii teaching and referral hospital,” Kases said.
The police boss said the bodies of the victims were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary to await autopsy.
Area Ward Representative, Ismael Bosire condoled with the bereaved family and urged the investigators to hasten their probe to ascertain the cause of the fire.
He appealed to residents using electricity to be careful and ensure that any fault is rectified to avoid fire outbreaks.
“I laud the villagers who rushed and helped rescue the father and the child. It is sad that we lost the mother and the three children,” Bosire said.
