Reprieve for under pressure Juma as AFC Leopards declare support
Football Kenya Federation Premier League side AFC Leopards have come out strongly to support under-fire head coach Tom Juma.
Juma and, to a greater extent, his fellow members of the technical bench have been under immense pressure as AFC Leopards witnessed a poor start to the 2023/24 season.
Ingwe are yet to win or score a goal after three matches, and fans have grown relentless as their team loses more ground in the title chase each matchday.
AFC Leopards’ statement
“The management of the club is pleased to announce its unwavering confidence in the leadership of the technical bench, headed by Mr. Tom Juma.
“The club remains committed to achieving its goals and aspirations, and we trust that the technical bench is well-equipped to guide us toward victory,” AFC Leopards’ statement released on September 20, 2023, read.
While they have witnessed a less impressive performance, the management expressed hope that Juma, who was appointed as the head coach before the season began, can help the team experience a positive turnaround.
“Tom Juma and his team have been working tirelessly to prepare the squad for success this season.
“Their dedication and expertise are instrumental in achieving our goals, and we anticipate excellent results in the matches to come,” AFC Leopards added.
Call for fans’ unwavering support
While the pressure has mostly come from fans, the 12-time Premier League winners want the supporters to stick around and rally around the team.
“We call upon our dedicated fans to remain optimistic and continue supporting the team passionately.
“Your unwavering support is the driving force behind our success, and together, we can achieve greatness and make this season one to remember,” the statement concluded.
AFC Leopards and their fans have had to endure several seasons without a Premier League title since they last lifted it in 1998.
While their trophy-less seasons persist in the top flight, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards traditional archrivals, Tusker, Ulinzi Stars, Sony Sugar, Sofapaka, Mathare United, and even Oserian FC have lifted the title.
