Kenyan International basketballer Wanyama joins Lithuanian club

Kenyan basketball star Mercy Wanyama has made a move to Lithuania, joining BC Krepsino Siaulai for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

The announcement was made by her management, DC Sports Agency, which revealed that she has signed a one-year contract with the Lithuanian club.

Wanyama’s IQ

DC Sports Agency expressed their excitement about signing Mercy Wanyama, describing her as an exceptional talent with a unique skill set and a remarkable basketball IQ.

“DC Sports Agency is excited to announce that we have signed our Kenyan International All-Star centre Mercy Wanyama (185cm F/C ) to a one-year deal in Lithuania with BC Krepsino Siaulai for the upcoming season,” the agency announced.

In her most recent season, Wanyama displayed impressive statistics, averaging 12.9 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game while maintaining a 50% field goal shooting percentage.

Her distinctive skills, tenacity, and exceptional basketball intelligence make her a valuable addition to any team.

“One of the most decorated African/Cotonou players with several participations in FIBA international tournaments and AfroBasket with the Kenyan senior Women’s national team and for the past couple of years played in Spain,” the statement revealed.

“This past season she averaged 12.9 ppg, 9.2 rpg, shooting 50% FG overall. Special skill set, and plays with a lot of tenacity and outstanding basketball IQ. Excited for you and the future. Go be great,” the statement added.

Wanyama’s journey

Wanyama’s basketball journey in Kenya includes playing in the Kenya Basketball Federation’s Women’s premier league and winning the MVP award at the national league and club qualifiers while playing for the Equity Hawks from 2016 to 2018. She also had a stint with the local club MTM Storms.

In 2018, she took her talents to Spain, signing with ADBA Avilés. Later, she moved to the AD Cortegada LF2 team in Spain, where she is currently based.

Her outstanding performance in the 22-23 season earned her the special MVP award after recording 23 points and 12 rebounds, with a high valuation score of 43.

Mercy Wanyama is part of a sporting family, being the younger sibling of former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama and former international footballer McDonald Mariga.

Their father is a former AFC Leopards player, highlighting the strong sporting background in their family.
