Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP) Fred Ikana, led the constituents in celebrating the victory of Shanderema Boys Secondary in the Western regional schools’ ball-games soccer finals at the weekend.

Shanderema trounced their arch-rivals Musingu Boys 3-0 to clinch the regional title in a mouth-watering match staged at the Bukhungu Stadium.

It was a sweet revenge for the Eagles who had lost 2-1 to the Scorpions in the county finals on Saturday, July 8. 

The two teams were then picked to represent Kakamega County in the regional competitions; that were held between Wednesday and Saturday.

Shanderema’s Coach Kevin Asuba hailed his charges who he said put on a brave battle that saw them emerge victorious.

“It was a tough match but my soldiers remained focused and professional. That is why they emerged victorious,” he said.

Ikana, who has been the force behind the team, termed the victory as historic and promised to continue supporting them as they prepare for the nationals slated for Kakamega.

“Shanderema have done us proud and I assure them of my continued total commitment to support them. I am confident that they will bring the national title home,” he added.

He promised to boost the team financially when he meets them before the nationals.
Butere and Madira Girls also qualified to represent the region in the girls’ soccer competitions at the national level.

Meanwhile, former national secondary schools boys’ soccer big gun, St. Anthony of Trans Nzoia made its intention of reclaiming the lost glory clear by beating Christ the King (CTK) of Kajiado 3-1 in the final of the Rift Valley region Secondary Schools competition that ended over theb weekend in Nyahururu, Laikipia County.

The Kajiado side was first to score via David Buje who headed home a cross by Najib Musyoka in the 8th minute in the final played at the Nyahururu stadium. 

Aldrine Kibet of St Anthony cancelled the lead 10 minutes later with a long shot that CTK goalkeeper Emmanuel Omluvi failed to stop.

The winners added two more goals on resumption through Stanley Waswa and Joseph Omuse in the 60th and 80th minutes respectively.

St. Anthony reached the finals by beating last year’s champions Kabarnet 4-1 in one of the semis played at Ndururumo High School grounds on Friday. In the other semi, CTK beat Chemase of Nandi 3-0 at the Stadium.
