MPs summon Land CS over 900 acres Portland Cement land row
A House committee has summoned Lands Cabinet Secretary Zachary Njeru and his Principal Secretary Nixon Korir to provide details on the real owners of the 900 acres of land owned by East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC).
The Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee chaired by Embakasi North MP James Gakuya told the duo to appear before it next Thursday with all the documents after the National Lands Commission (NLC) claimed that the Ministry of lands had failed to respond to their letters which they had sought for the said information.
Said Gakuya; “We have asked the CS lands, the PS and all of you here to be present here on July 13 to shed light on this matter. This is the last chance we will be giving you people to defend yourselves, we need to conclude with this matter.”
NLC chairperson Gershom Otachi, told the committee that as of now they are not able to make a determination as to whether EAPCC owns the land either by virtue of buying or being given.
Otachi also told the committee that despite them writing to EAPCC on May 24 seeking details of the said parcel, they never responded to them.
