Toronto Marathon winner Magdalene Masai is drooling at the prospects of running in a major race this season.

After setting a course record in the Canadian city last year,  the former world cross country bronze medallist says that her main aim is to break into the lucrative big city marathon circuit.

Toronto was her third marathon after Amsterdam and Hamburg and she hopes her management will confirm a race as she focuses on competing in the World Major Marathons (WMM) this year.

“Though I am so hopeful to compete in a major marathon this new season but am still waiting for my management to confirm.

“I have heard people talk about Boston it has a different kind of experience which I want to test myself, I know of London, Chicago, New York, Berlin and Tokyo,” said an optimistic Masai.

In 2016 she changed from the track to the road races with a debut at Ostia Half Marathon clocking 67:30.

“Running track was my thing but I liked doing 10km. In the half marathon, my training was not far away from what marathoners were doing and one time I decided that I need to do one but it was not one year or one month of preparation,” said Masai.

It took her almost four years of preparation until 2018 but she says the shift was not hard since she was already doing it in training.

“It wasn’t a one year or one-month preparation. Since 2016, I had been preparing for a marathon and ran it in 2018. But the shift was not hard since I was doing some running work a while ago.

I used to run with them (senior males athletes) as they went for 35km run, I could stop at 30km. I was near them all the time. Though I stopped I felt like going further and that made it easy to run a marathon,” said Masai.
