Kindiki declares Wednesday a public holiday to mark Eid-Ul-Adha
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has declared Wednesday, June 28, 2023, a public holiday to mark Eid-Ul-Adha.
Kindiki announced the holiday in a Gazette Notice dated June 26, 2023.
Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) is the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam after Eid-Ul-Fitr. The celebration honours the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God’s command.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (2) and part II of the Schedule, as read with section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Wednesday, the 28th June, 2023, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-Ul-Adha (Idd-Ul-Azha),”- Kindiki said in the Gazette Notice.
The Eid-Ul-Adha celebration marks the end of the Muslims’ annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims.
The Muslim faith requires each abled faithful to visit the city at least once in a lifetime.
