Court appoints team to resolve Kisii-Nyamira border wrangles
The Land and Environment court yesterday identified a team to identify the exact borderline between Kisii and Nyamira counties at Keroka township.
Justice Kamau Mugo directed Attorney General Justin Muturi to pick a surveyor from the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning who does not hail from the affected counties to supervise the exercise of ascertaining the exact boundary.
Also to be present during the determination of the border lines will be the Regional Director of Survey Services, land registrars of the two counties, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and any other professionals who will be appointed by the interested parties who are enjoined in the matter.
Exact boundaries
The boundaries case was lodged by Rigoma ward MCA Nyambega Gisesa who wants the court to offer guidance on the exact boundaries of the two counties at Keroka and the general demarcation of the general boundaries of Kisii and Nyamira counties.
Nyambega cited continued disputes over revenue collection especially in Keroka town as issues that need to be sorted once and for all by the Court.
Among the places that Nyambega’s petition wants the court to offer guidance over boundaries include the areas of Jogoo, Kisii Bottlers and the area covered by the Agricultural Training College which are said to be originally in Nyamira county.
The court will visit Keroka town on June 16 when the experts whom it appointed to work out the issue will show where the boundaries are.
