Stakes high as women premier league enters last quarter with leaders tied
With only five matches left in the top tier Kenya Women Premier League, all eyes will be on joint leaders Gaspo Women FC and defending Champions Vihiga Queens FC who are tied on 37 points but the former with a better goal difference of +4. Both have interesting ties this weekend. Leaders Gaspo face off with Bunyore Starlets at GEMS Cambridge Grounds Saturday with an intention to keep up the momentum at the top.Starlets in seventh place had lost 1-0 last weekend to second placed Vihiga Queens and will want to rectify a few weak areas. Coach Jacob Ghost Mulee for Gaspo knows there will be no room for slackening and should therefore parade a strong squad to go hunting against the Westerners who have not won a match in the last five games and have 19 points on the bag off 16 matches.Gaspo on their part have 11 wins on 16 encounters with a steady goal difference of +34 thus far. Meanwhile at the Moi Stadium Kisumu Saturday, hosts Kisumu All-Starlets FC who have struggled in recent times take on current League runners-up Vihiga Queens.
The Lakeside team in position eight with 17 points, has only registered one win on the last five outings.
Queens has not list to All-Starlets on the past four matches so may be buoyed heavily by these statistic. However, the visiting Queens will have to be aware of the potent league top-score Monica Etot currently on 13 goals.
In another interesting duel lined up this weekend, sixth placed Thika Queens host red hot Wadadia TV at the Stima Club-Nairobi Sunday for a crucial duel that is expected to have goals.
Queens who fell 3-0 last week to Ulinzi Starlets, will be hoping for an improved performance against Wadadia who are currently fifth placed with 29 points after their 4-1 demolition of Kisumu All-Starlets last time out.
Elsewhere Ulinzi Starlets will be visitors of Nakuru City Queens in a hot duel at the ASK Show Grounds in Nakuru Town. City Queens is fourth in the standings with 31 points off 16 matches. In their last match recently, the Rift Valley based team beat relegation bound Kayole Starlet FC 1-0 away in Nairobi to keep them in good stead.
