Kakamega Homeboyz FC beat western rivals and relegation candidates  Vihiga Bullets 2-0 to further compound Coach Louis Kizito’s problems at the helm as the Football Kenya Federation-Premier League saw two matches played yesterday.

In the match played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, an own goal by Juma Jackson and a 69th-minute score by Brian Eshihanda was enough to take Patrick Odhiambo’s men to 28 points off 26 matches.

Homeboyz had to dig deep against familiar rivals with the first half ending goalless despite a very dominating performance from the first whistle.

Homeboyz had so many opportunities with the ball, especially in the attacking third with Moses Mudavadi and Felicien Okanda guilty of missing open chances.

However, to their credit, the Bullets had a good show defensively with goalkeeper Edgar Epiyayu called to action one too many times. On their part, the Bullets were always misfiring upfront with the likes of David Chesali and Timonah Wanyonyi also failing to hit the target.

Fourth consecutive loss

This was the fourth consecutive loss for the Bullets who are deep in the red with only eight points and two wins in 26 matches.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards, who have recently been docked three points for crowd trouble, threw away a 2-0 lead in their game against KCB FC to end the match 2-2 at the Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani yesterday.

The tie means Leopards are down to the eighth place with 38 points with KCB retaining fourth place albeit with 49 points off 26 games.

Ingwe captain Peter Thiongo opened the scoring for his side after only three minutes of play after an unlikely defensive mix-up from the Bankers.

This goal allowed Patrick Aussems men to press forward with their attack play as they pinned Zedekiah Otieno’s men against the wall with their high press and possession.

KCB used more of the flanks as they attempted to open the Leopards’ defence but to little effect. Musa Masika was a constant thorn in the Ingwe backline with his darting runs and turns on the ball and in the extra time of the first half squared a good ball to the arriving Victor Omune who stabbed it home as the game went into a break.

The second half was fluid and of urgency for the KCB side as coach Otieno made tactical changes to counter the fast-paced play of their opponents. The Bankers also had a lot of possession play especially in the middle of the pack through Apollo Otieno and Captain Michael Mutinda.

In the 49th minute of play, KCB offensive player Cliff Oruko stabbed home a lovely goal after a good floater off Henry Onyango.

This goal suddenly sprung KCB into action as they not only controlled play but also threw great balls into the danger zone of the opponents’ box. The Leopards’ tactician was on his feet shouting instructions to his players not to lose concentration even as he also worked on a few personnel changes himself.

The centre could not hold anymore as KCB launched a quick attack from the right flank to draw the defenders out. Kennedy Ochino’s great ball from the 18-yard box found an unmarked Henry Onyango whose first-time shot was parried by Ingwe goalkeeper Levis Opiyo but only to the path of substitute Francis Kahiro who slid it home from close range in the 87th minute of play for what would become the equalizer of the game.
