‘Raila is applying to join gov’t through protests’ – Kiraitu Murungi
Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi now says Azimio-la Umoja-One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga is applying to join the government through the backdoor.
Kiraitu, while speaking in Meru on Saturday, April 22, claimed that Raila is smartly using protests to lure President William Ruto into giving him a position in his government.
The former urged the current administration to create an office for Raila to avert more damages that have been experienced during the anti-government demos.
“Raila Odinga is in opposition but he is still in government. Hii maandamano ni mtu anafanya application ya kazi. The question is how many lives will be lost, how many businesses will be destroyed for this guy to get a job?” he posed.
Odinga had previously announced that protests would kick off after the end of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
Kiraitu’s appointment
This was Kiraitu’s first public appearance after his appointment by President Ruto.
The President, in a gazette notice dated April 19, appointed Murungi to be the chairperson of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya Board of Directors for a period of three years.
The former county boss was appointed alongside former Tharaka Nithi governor Samuel Ragwa who will head the National Cereals and Produce Board for the same period.
Murungi lost his seat to Kawira Mwangaza in last year’s general election.
The appointment also comes days after the former Energy Minister and two ex-principal secretaries Patrick Nyoike and Joseph Njoroge were linked to the high power prices in the country.
