Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi has announced plans for the constituency National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to sponsor oncology students.

Announcing the news, Mnyazi (pictured) said the move will help increase number of experts in cancer treatment in the constituency.

Lawmaker said her constituency is facing many challenges, particularly in the health sector, which requires a lot of investment expertise to deal with the specialised health care.

Speaking in Malindi during the disbursement of bursaries to Shella and Malindi town wards at the weekend, the lawmaker said under her leadership, NG-CDF will give priority to students who will be taking those special courses.

Major challenge

“As you know cancer has become one of the deadly diseases killing our people and getting specialists offering its treatment is still a major challenge. Why don’t we educate our children to become experts in this field and treat us in the future?” she asked.

The MP noted that a similar initiative has been successful in Kwale.

“If there is any student interested in studying oncology to become a doctor of cancer treatment, please as a parent come to my office and give the name of the student and we shall look for ways of supporting him or her,” said the MP.

Legislator said those who will be sponsored shall have to sign a contract that after the training they would come to work in hospitals in Kilifi county.
