Two face jail over forged documents
Two women have been fined Sh100,000 or serve six months in jail by a Nairobi court after being found guilty for forgery. Salia Khalif and Sharif Mustapha were found guilty of having passports with forged entry stamps on March 14.
According to the charge sheet, the two traveled from Mandera to Nairobi Wilson Airport where they were arrested. They were stopped at a security checkpoint for compliance checks, where it was discovered that their travelling documents were endorsed with an immigration date stamp that doesn’t exist.
After interrogation by immigration officers, it was established that the stamps on their passports were not genuine. They appeared before Chief Magistrate Robinson Ondieki where they pleaded guilty to the offence.
In mitigation, the convicts pleaded with the court for leniency claiming they don’t know how to read hence could not realise whether the stamp was forged. “I could have noticed the document was forged if I knew how to read,” said Sharif.
