Beach volleyball duo Wavinya, Kasisi win Mombasa edition

The duo of  Yvonne Wavinya and Phosca Kasisi are the 2023 womens’ Kenya Volleyball Federation Homologated National Beach Volleyball Tour-Mombasa edition champions.

Kasisi and Waivanya managed a 2-1 (21-23/21-14/13-15) win over the pair of Gaudencia Makokha and Naomi Too in the gold medal match.

It was an intense contest of close margins, especially in the first and third sets between the ladies under the coastal heat.

The two-day tournament played at Big Tree Hotel in Mombasa saw several entries from as far as Cameroon.

Taking home the bronze medal was the duo of Lorine Chebet and Pamela Jepkirui.

In the men’s category, the pair of Jairus Kipkosgei and Elphas Makuto was declared the gold medal winners after their 2-0 (21-17/23-21) over the duo of Cornelius Kiplagat and Nicholas Lagat.

This was also a sizzling match with many twists and turns during the course of each. Kipkosgei’s hitting and Makuto’s serving were on point but on the flip side, the opponents had their moments which they duly utilised.

The ladies’ quarter-finals had a lot of interesting matchups and competition. However, it is in the semis that a real battle was witnessed.

 The likes of Gaudencia Makokha and Naomi Too proved a hard nut to crack. Pool A for the ladies round robin competition saw Wavinya and Phosca who were seeded first in this tournament finish tops with a points ratio of 2.6250 off six games played with 32 points dropped against 84 points won.

As for the men’s side, the pair of Aggrey Kibungei and Enock Kiptum had the single most amassed points in the round robin ranking after posting 94 points against 83 conceded to get an average 1.1325 points ratio.

This was achieved after the duo took charge of Group C with four wins and a single loss.

In Group A, Ambrose Munene and Philip Cheptot seeded 12th, had four match points with a maximum ratio of 84 against 60 points lost.

They won altogether four of their round-robin matches with no loss to their name. They also posted a score ratio of 2.650.
