Why Murang’a have sealed deal with Naivas
Murang’a Seal FC and Naivas FC fixture will be the highlight weekend match as the National Super League action resumes across different venues where seven matches lined up.
Both teams suffered surprising losses in midweek encounters with similar scorelines of 1-0 against Mwatate United and Mully Children Family FC respectively.
Seal who are third on the log are on 18 points off nine matches with a goal difference of 8 are still very much alive in the title chase especially after leaders Shabana’s unbeaten run was halted on Wednesday. In their last five matches, Seal have two wins, two draws and a single loss thus far.
Naivas on their part are eighth on the log with 12 points and have also had an inconsistent run in recent times. In the past five matches, the Retailing giant has won only once and has a 5 goal difference. Both teams who were both promoted in the 2020/21 season have in recent times met in the second tier League with Seal winning the first leg 4-0 in May last year and Naivas winning 1-0 in the corresponding fixture a month later.
Meanwhile, high flying Kibera Black Stars who are second on the log with 20 points, travel for a tricky tie with Gusii FC at Gusii Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Full points
Black Stars who ended Shabana’s stubborn run in midweek have a match in hand over their challengers and Coach Evans Ogutu will be hoping he gets full points on the road against a tricky opponent.
The home team is currently fifth on the log with 12 points and like BlackStars, are yet to lose in the immediate past five fixtures.
Their last game away at Shamu Grounds in Ukunda ended goalless against SS Assad and all focus will be on getting hunger in the opponents’ box especially since BlackStars have only conceded three times in nine matches played.
Elsewhere stuttering Coastal Heroes will be in Nairobi’s Camp Toyoyo for a date with Kibera-based Darajani Gogo FC this Sunday. Heroes who are 12th on the log with 10 points have only one win in their past five matches.
New boys Gogo on their part will have to be alert despite being in a better position (ninth), but also have a chance to better their standings having amassed 12 points off eight matches.
In other games lined up, sixth-placed Kisumu All-Stars will be at home against lowly Mwatate United in a game to be played at Moi Stadium.
The Lakeside Boys also known as Otenga have had an improved run recently which has seen them collect eight points out of a possible 15 points and with 13 points in the bag.
At the Coast, there will be a local derby with SS Assad hosting rivals and neighbours Mombasa Elite at Shamu Grounds in Ukunda.
