SS Assad FC and Naivas FC stubbornness at their pitches counted for nothing after both lost their matches 2-1 against Mara Sugar and high-flying Shabana respectively.

This is their third win in a row which means that leaders Shabana continue bright with their odyssey with their third win in a row. Tore Bobe are now five points clear in the standings with 19 points and a 10 goal difference.

The conceded goal was the first in seven matches for Shabana whose goals were scored by Wycliffe Nthaka and Absalom Ongechi in the 46th and 77th minutes.

The consolation goal for the home team came against the run of play in the 25th minute through Kingsley Owuor.

The Retailers under the tutelage of Justin Onkoba had their efforts in the game, especially in the first half but most went begging.

Shabana had a lot of the ball in enemy territory and took the time to find spaces with the ever-present forward Vincent Nyabuto causing all manner of problems for the opposing backline.

The match also had fair challenges with the centre referee flashing bookings to four players including three for the visiting side.

Naivas are third with 10 points but with a match in hand and still have a chance to forge ahead to the playoffs.

At Shamu Grounds, Kwale County, home team SS Assad put up a spirited fight but fell short with visiting side Muranga Seal going away with full points after their 2-1 victory.

Goals from Eric Barecho in the 76th minute and Fabian Adzyimy in the 82nd minute cancelled out Abdalla Hemedi’s equaliser in the 81st minute.

The Seals are up to the fourth place with 10 points after their second consecutive win. Assad on their part are down to 10th with four losses in their last five matches and have in the bag six points to their name.

In three other duels played yesterday, there were draws with two of those ending in goalless ties. At the Moi Stadium in Kisumu County, hosts Kisumu All-Stars FC drew 1-1 against Silibwet Leons FC. The result means the Leons are still 16th in the log with only two points picked in the last five matches while the Lakeside team is ninth with six points. Elsewhere, Mombasa Elite and MCF tied 0-0 as well, same as the derby pitting Mara Sugar FC and Migori Youth.
