Wajir governor Ahmed Abdullahi Jiir chief agent yesterday told the High Court gubernatorial elections held on August 9 were free, fair and transparent.

Yahya Dahiye current governor Abdullahi’s Chief of Staff told Justice George Dulu dismissed claims of election malpractices in the Wajir gubernatorial race saying voting at polling stations proceeded seamlessly.

Led in his evidence in chief by lawyer Omwanza Ombati, Dahiye said told the court that KIEMS kits were used to identify voters.

He appeared in court as a witness for Abdullahi following a petition filed by Dr Hassan Mohamed Adam who is challenging the governor’s win.

Another witness for the governor, Ashim Salat Hassan defended the results saying that it was conducted in accordance to the law.

He told the court that all voters at Jigjiga polling centre were identified using the KIEMS kit adding that no voter was sent away or denied the right to vote.

Salat who was the governor’s chief agent at the polling centre confirmed that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner and that he did not witness any election malpractices at his station. The witness was further pushed to explain whether the governor was within the poling station during the voting date.
