President William Ruto is set to leave the country for United States on Monday, December 12 after presiding over Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.

The President will be attending United States-Africa Submit in Washington, DC.

The Summit is aimed at outlining the commitment of the US to African countries both in terms of development and diplomatic ties.

The Summit, which will take place between December 13-15, will underscore the importance of US-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities.

All African Head of State have been invited by the US President Joe Biden to attend the meeting.

It is a first-of-its-kind to be held in the US.

Ruto joins Raila

Ruto will join Opposition leader Raila Odinga who left the country for the US on Saturday, December 10 and is attending the Summit in his capacity as African Union High Representative for Infrastructure.

“Raila Odinga is set to leave the country late Saturday, December 10, 2022, for a one-week visit to the US,” a statement by his office read in parts.

This follows the cancellation of his parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations on Monday, December 12 (today).

The U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit will bring over 50 leaders from across the African continent.

The Summit will show how persistently committed the United States is to Africa, underline the significance of U.S.-Africa relations, and highlight how closely they are working together on common global priorities.

It will also build on shared values to better foster new economic engagement, strengthen the US-Africa commitment to democracy and human rights, mitigate the effects of COVID-19 and future pandemics, work cooperatively to strengthen regional and global health, promote food security, advance peace and security, respond to the climate crisis, and strengthen ties with diaspora communities.
