Members of parliament from Kiambu have vowed to ensure that the county will maximumly reap from the Kenya Kwanza government in matters of development.

The legislators say that they will ensure that farmers from the area get maximum guaranteed results from their various farming activities.

Speaking at the Limuru Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society during its Annual General Meeting, 7 MPs who graced the event revealed that they had formed a lobby group namely United for Kiambu which they will use as a catalyst to achieve their goals.

The law makers who were hosted by area MP Kiragu Chege included G.G Kagombe (Gatundu South), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town), Kimani Wanjiku (Kiambaa), Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Kiambu woman representative Ann Wamuratha, Senator Karungo Thang’wa and Kiambu County Assembly Chief Whip Nelson Munga.

Other area MPs including Mburu Kahangara (Lari), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu) and Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete) sent apologies.

They said that they will join hands with area governor Kimani Wamatangi and all the other elected leaders to push the government so that both crop and animal husbandry in the region are fully exploited to benefit farmers.

Alice said that they are pushing for the formation of more municipalities in the county in order for it to benefit from donor funds.

“We want all our 12 constituencies to become municipalities so that we can angle ourselves to get donor funds and improve our road infrastructure among others”, she said.

Kiragu said that President William Ruto has assured leaders that all the road projects initiated by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta would be completed before any other projects are started.

“Nobody should lie to you that such projects as Mau Mau Road, Bathi and Ruiru dam among other mega projects will stall. The President is committed to completing all of them as he has persistently intimated that no new project will be initiated until the old ones are fully complete”, he said.

Gathoni said that legislators will do everything possible to make sure that a law is enacted to zero-rate all farm inputs so that agriculture can flourish.

“We as parliamentarians will do all we can and prevail upon the government to remove taxes on farm inputs in the next national budget in order for those engaging in farming can afford them”, she said.

Senator Karungo called upon the youth and women to organize themselves in groups in order to benefit from the Hustlers Fund set to be launched in December by the President.

“For you to acquire the Hustlers money, you have to be in organized legal groups. It’s therefore advisable to move fast and form the same so that you can be among the first people to get the initial release”, he said.

During the event, a Yoghurt making machine valued at Ksh10 million was commissioned by Kiragu with the facility’s board chairman Njuguna Chege.

The MPs unanimously called upon Kenyans and specifically ODM leader Raila Odinga to stop bashing the Ruto administration and instead give it time to implement its development agenda.

“There’s a lot of hope in the foreseeable future in matters of development and it’s therefore prudent if leaders and the general population can be patient with the President as he rolls out his development agendas,” Kiambaa MP said.
