Moses Kuria’s brother petitions UDA MP’s win
Aloise Kinyanjui, a younger brother of former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, has lodged a petition before the High Court challenging the re-election of Juja MP George Koimburi.
In his court papers, lodged at the Kiambu High Court, Kinyanjui, who vied for the Juja Parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket, wants the court to invalidate Koimburi’s win saying the whole election for the parliamentary seat was not fair and transparent.
Through lawyer Ndegwa and Ndegwa Advocates, Kinyanjui terms the entire election for the parliamentary seat, which was overseen by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on August 9, was married with massive irregularities and illegalities, and the same should be nullified.
In the case, the petitioner, who declined to concede defeat following the announcement of the final results, has sued IEBC, Juja constituency Returning Officer and MP Koimburi who are all listed as respondents.
“The election was not free and fair. I urge the court to nullify the results declaring Koimburi as the MP-elect for the Juja parliamentary seat,” Kinyanjui says in his court papers.
Koimburi of the UDA party retained his Juja parliamentary seat after garnering 39,413 votes beating two other opponents in the hotly contested election battle.
His opponent, Kinyanjui, came second with 30,799, followed by independent candidate Prof Joseph Ng’ang’a’ Mustard’, who managed 8,588 votes.
