Outgoing Busia Senator Amos Wako has confirmed that he will be a part of Raila Odinga’s legal team set to challenge President-elect William Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court.

Speaking during a funeral service on Saturday, August 20, Wako assured Kenyans that Raila will be filing a petition by Monday, August 22, 2022.

“But because I am a senior counsel, they (Azimio la Umoja) called me saying that I should return to Nairobi and look into the case that Raila’s lawyer has prepared…by Monday, August 22, the case will be there,” Wako said.

Raila had pledged to seek legal redress after Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto as the fifth president.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, August 16, the ODM leader rejected the outcome of the results describing them as blatant disregard of the country’s constitution.

“We are pursuing constitutional and lawful channels to invalidate Chebukati’s illegal and unconstitutional pronouncement. We are certain that justice will prevail,” Raila said.

Raila further urged his supporters to maintain peace and calm as his team pursues constitutional avenues to invalidate the results announced by Chebukati.

Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9 election after he garnered 7,176,141 votes trouncing his main rival Raila who had 6,942,930 votes.
