Harambee Starlets are through to the semi-final of the ongoing Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) Women’s Championship in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania after drubbing debutants Djibouti 12-0.

Four goals from youngster Gentrix Shikangwa, a hat-trick each for Mercy Airo and Mwanahalima Adam and a goal a piece for Vivian Nasaka and Janet Bundi gave Starlets the win that leaves them with six points ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Uganda.

Nasaka opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Shikangwa drove home a second a minute later. She then added the team’s third and her second in the 17th minute for a 3-0 lead. Adam’s goal in the 34th and Bundi’s 45th minute goals saw the home girls head to the breather five goals up.

Airo scored her hat-trick in a span of 12 minutes, in the 53rd, 61st and a penalty kick in the 65th.  Shikangwa spoiled Airo’s chances of a flawless hat-trick with a 56th minute goal, her third and the team’s seventh.

The last five minutes produced three goals, an 85th strike from Shikangwa and two from Adam in the 87th and 90th minute for the win. Djibout were coming off a 13-0 thrashing by Uganda.

David Ouma’s side now have six points from two games and have not conceded after beating Ethiopia 2-0 on Sunday.

Tomorrow’s encounter against Uganda is likely to determine the winner of group A.
