Emotions ran high as Mediamax sports correspondent Gibo Zachary Gisiri was laid to rest at his home in Komonange Village in Kehancha, Migori County on Friday.

The 40-year-old multimedia scribe took the final blow on May 23 at Nyanchwa Hospital in Kisii after a short illness. He left behind a widow and three children.

Speaker after speaker at the burial talked of how the partially blind scribe and lawyer was multi-talented and was endowed with leadership skills.

His mother, Jane Gisiri, said the family was devastated by his death since he was their breadwinner.

“He was our main hope. We relied on him for almost everything.  His death has left a big gap in the family that we don’t know how we will cope with,” she said.

People Daily Sports Editor James Waindi referred to him as a passionate sports writer who was a fighter and yearned to achieve to be the best among the best.

“Gibo’s death is a major blow to not only the Mediamax family but to the entire sports fraternity. He was extraordinary, despite the challenges he had. He was one of our best writers who was comfortable with reporting all disciplines but with a bias toward chess, school games, basketball, rugby championships and football. He was also a key contributor to the Milele FM Sporti Mitaani weekly show,” he said.
