Shivam Vinayak and Lewis Ogonyi dominated their classes in the second round of the 2022 National Motocross Championship with clean sweep wins at the Jamhuri Motocross Track Sunday.

Vinayak emerged tops overall in the combined MX-1 and MX-2 classes winning all three heats in magnificent style and the process collecting a cool 60 points. His MX-1 class had five seasoned riders but ultimately his experience and skill won it for him as he beat the lap times set. His quick pace on the straight and bumps helped him in putting the rest of the pack at bay.

Walter Kuria riding a KTM Bike No.14 was a force just behind Vinayak and always kept a good charge taking the runner-up spot in all heats. He also had speed but at some points had his times eaten up in the slow corners with his total collection of the day being 51 points.

To his benefit, Kuria had almost no mechanical challenges which almost made his afternoon challenge worthwhile. Githuku Mungai was third overall in the class with 45 points also in a KTM bike.

In the closer MX-2 class, Alex Kandie was first overall in the three-rider competition. Kandie convincingly won all heats with good riding skills in the dusty and sunny conditions.

His nearest challenger was Ivanca Yongo who incidentally finished third fastest in the opening heat before battling to finish runner-up in the subsequent two heats. For that, Yongo had 49 points, two ahead of Stephen Kahumbu who finished third overall in the class.

Meanwhile, young Ogonyi was the toss of the 15-rider competition in the MX-65 class which involved four Ugandan guests.

The impressive Ogonyi stemmed a serious battle from his back to win all heats in what was mostly determined by a good start. However, he was helped by the fact that the guest riders were not ranked due to the rules with Miguel Katende finishing first twice and runner-up once. This enabled Ogonyi to be promoted upwards based on finishing stats at the end of tabulation, collecting 60 points.

John Njoroge came in second with 47 points after a steady performance as he chased the winner fearlessly. The third overall and finishing on 45 points were Thuku Waweru with Ogwe Ngonga missing the podium finish by only two points after amassing 43 points at the close of business with two third-place finishes in the second and third heats.
