Wamunyiyi’s party welcomes former top administrator
The Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) received a boost when George Natembeya, who resigned yesterday as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner to vie for the Trans Nzoia governor seat, joined it.
Speaking at the DAP-K headquarters in Nairobi, Party leader, Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi, said Natembeya will be the first to fly the party’s ticket for the Trans Nzoia governor seat.
“We have received the news of the resignation of our brother George Natembeya. We are happy for him and the work he has done for this country,” Wamunyinyi (pictured) told journalists.
First exit
Natembeya will square it out with Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and long-serving Trans Nzoia Finance Executive Boniface Wanyonyi.
Natembeya is the first high-ranking official in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to resign ahead of the February 9 deadline for public servants eyeing political seats in the August 9 General Election.
During the inauguration of the party headquarters, Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch defected from Ford Kenya and joined the party which is associated with Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
TransNzoia Senator Michael Mbito also defected from Jubilee and joined the leopard party.
Wamunyinyi reiterated that the leopard party is part of the Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja movement.
