Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has condemned the attack on former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru Kiambu County.

In a statement via his official X account on Thursday, November 28, 2024, Amisi questioned why goons were sent to disrupt and attack Gachagua while attending the funeral service adding that he thought he(Gachagua) was harmless after his impeachment.

In addition, the vocal parliamentarian noted that it was wrong to continue unleashing violence on the second deputy president who is already out of office.

“I thought #Gachagua was already impeached and therefore harmless! What do you intend to achieve by unleashing goons on him? Ama yeye ndio alijipangia? Why continue attacking a man who is already down? Politricks of Central will show us things! Kenya needs a Renaissance!”MP Amisi wrote.

Leaders on Limuru violence

Apart from Amisi, other leaders have come out to condemn Gachagua’s attack and called for investigations.

Here are some of the condemnation messages.

“The thought of hiring goons to stone vehicles & disrupt a sendoff ceremony of a well-respected member of the community for political reasons is evil & selfish. May the perpetrators of the heinous acts witnessed in Limuru today be ashamed, as we pray for solace to the affected family, “Cate Waruguru.

“I wish to condemn wholeheartedly the sponsored violence meted on innocent mourners at a funeral in Limuru today! This is not the Kenyan way and this must be condemned by All! Wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the mourners poleni sana and the perpetrators a condemned life!”Safina party leader Jimi Wanjigi.

“I condemn the attack on Hon Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru by goons that left many people injured and property destroyed. No one has a monopoly of violence. If things continue this way the nation will descend into civil war, “Morara Kebaso.

Gachagua’s attack

Gachagua was today forced to flee a burial service he had attended in Limuru after a rowdy crowd disrupted the event when they started shaking a tent where he alongside his allies was seated.

“Today I was at a funeral service in Limuru for a young man called Erastus Nduati. While we were preparing to lay the young man to rest goons attacked us and the other mourners who were present, including children. The gangsters were armed with stones, machetes, iron bars and sticks,”

“They descended randomly on mourners present and attacked them using the weapons they had, as well as using the plastic seats available. A specific group followed me as I went to my car, which they proceeded to attack with stones and iron bars. We literally drove out of the venue under a hail of rocks!”Gachagua narrated via his social media accounts.
