Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohammed has hinted at a possible pact between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Addressing residents at Siaya Fresh Produce Market in Siaya County on Friday, August 30, 2024, the minority leader thanked President William Ruto for visiting the Nyanza region and the development projects he has launched in the region.

Junet also hinted that the ODM party will fully incline itself to the government and support Ruto’s presidential bid during the 2027 General Election.

“Mheshimiwa rais yangu ni kukushukuru vile umetembea hapa Nyanza, umeleta maendeleo Migori juzi, jana Homa Bay na leo Siaya, vile unatembea hapa na vile nimeona watu wamejitokeza, na vile naona hapa mbele, watu watakanyagana hapa ndani hakuna mtu atatoka nje, watakagana ndani ya serikali yako tu, kila mtu atajipanga hapa ndani.

Hapa tuko na Sam Atandi ambaye ndie spokesman wa ODM in government, vile naona hapa mbele baada ya miaka mbili, tatu Mungu akikubali naona kama tutaenda safari pamoja,” he said.

Ruto echoes Junet’s sentiments

Ruto backed Junet’s remarks saying the ODM party will no longer be in the opposition in 2027.

The president who was speaking during the thanksgiving ceremony of Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi noted that ODM will unite with the ruling party to form the government in three years.

He also reminisced his friendship with ODM leader Raila Odinga, which he says dates back to the formative years of the party.

Hiyo uongozi wa upinzani, baada ya miaka mitatu, hiyo kiongozi ya upinzani tutatafutia watu wengine kwa sababu sisi wote tutakuwa tuko upande wa serikali,” Ruto said.

This loosely translates to; “The ODM party will no longer be in opposition because, after three years, we shall unite to form the government. The leader of the opposition will be some other person.”

The Head of State also commended Raila for his positive contribution during the anti-government protests which caused chaos in the country, he praised the ODM leader saying he is a man with the heart of the nation.

“Raila Odinga knows what is good for Kenya,” Ruto said, adding that his decision to approach him (Raila) reach out and work with him was fuelled by the country’s political instability.
