Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

CS nominees vetting

As the vetting of Cabinet nominees nears the homestretch, Saturday, August 3, 2024, will present an opportunity for three former Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) to defend their suitability for new roles assigned by President William Ruto.

Two former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s men will also face the Committee on Appointments for vetting as they eye their entry into Ruto’s Cabinet.

John Mbadi nominated to lead the Ministry of Treasury and National Planning will be the first to appear before the vetting panel at 8 am.

Mbadi will be followed by Salim Mvurya (Trade), Rebecca Miano (Tourism), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) and Kipchumba Murkomen respectively.

Eyes on Olympics

Eyes will also be fixed on the screens as several athletes take part in various sporting activities at the Paris Olympic Games on Saturday August 3, 2024.

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, will compete in the 100m men’s opening heats at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kenya Maria Brunlehner is set to compete in the Women’s 50m Freestyle swimming event.

The Kenya Volleyball team will also play their last crucial group match against Japan. After losses to Brazil and Poland, a victory is essential for advancing in the tournament.

Power outages

Several areas will experience power outages on Saturday as notified by Kenya Power. The outage is due to planned maintenance of the grid and the system.

Power will be off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In the Nairobi region the outage will mainly affect Imara Daima. The areas listed by Kenya Power are Riara School, Daima Springs, Imara Gardens Estate, Amara Park, Oak Park Estate, Sunrise Park, ICC Church, Muimara Estate, Imara Daima Estate, Imara Arcade, Tuff Steel, Imara Mall, Part of Villa Franca Estate and adjacent customers.
In Uasin Gishu, the blackout will majorly hit Sinendet Center.

The areas listed by Kenya Power are Mwamba, Sinendet Centre,, Murugusi Quarry, Lower Kipkaren Centre, Upper Kipkaren, Nyengeilel Secondary School, Nyengeilel Centre, Murugusi Dispensary, Murugusi Primary School, Murugusi Centre, Musembe Market, Chepsaita, Magut Center, Ngayu Centre, Psorungai, Lumakanda Centre, Muyuki Centre, Sokomoko, Makutano and adjacent customers.

In the Western region parts of Kisumu, the areas set to be affected by the outage include Mega City Kachok, Exaverian Primary School, Nightingale Hospital, Milimani, United Court and adjacent customers.
