Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

CS nominees vetting

As the vetting for President William Ruto’s cabinet nominees enters the homestretch, former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho is set to face the 20-member panel of MPs in the Parliament Committee on Appointments at 8 am.

Joho who was nominated as the CS for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs will be followed by the former Machakos governor Alfred Mutua at 10 am. Mutua makes a cabinet comeback after being nominated to serve in the Labour and Social Protection docket.

Other nominees set to be vetted today are former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya- Co-operatives & Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development (12 pm), former Attorney General Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi for the position of CS Public Service and Human Capital Development (3 pm) and Stella Soi Lang’at – CS nominee for Gender Culture, The Arts & Heritage (5 pm).

Eyes on Olympics 2024

After Kenya’s top sprinter, Ferdinand Omanyala booked a spot in the semi-finals and finals of the men’s 100 metres race, these are the schedules for Kenya’s athletes to expect on Sunday.

The women’s steeplechase round one will begin today with three Kenyans expected to have a go at the race. The three are Beatrice Chepkoech, Faith Cherotich and Jackline Chepkoech.

In round one of the men’s 400-metre race, Kenya’s Zablon Ekhal Ekwam is set to fly the country’s flag.

Similarly, Omanyala is set to feature again in Sunday’s 100m semi-finals.

The women’s 800m race semi-finals will feature Vivian Chebet Kiprotich, Mary Moraa and Lilian Odira.

Also, the men’s 1500m semi-final will feature Timothy Cheruiyot, Brian Komen and Reynold Cheruiyot.

Scheduled blackouts

Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced a power outage partially affecting four counties on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

In a statement on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Kenya Power said that the outage was a result of scheduled maintenance of power lines.

Among the counties to be affected include Nairobi, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Kakamega.
