The demonstrators who were charged with stealing goods worth Sh78 million from Timba XO club associated with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi during anti-Finance Bill protests in Eldoret two months ago have appealed to the legislator to forgive them.

Families, relatives and friends of the victims who are still languishing in Eldoret GK Remand Prison after failing to raise a Sh300,000 bond slapped on them by a Magistrate’s court pleaded with the MP to withdraw the charges facing their sons and daughters  as he had promised early this month.

The 11 victims among them students from various public and private universities and tertiary institutions were part of the sixteen suspects who were arraigned in Eldoret court over the looting incident at the Timba XO Club in Uasin Gishu county. Five of the suspects have since been freed after their families stood surety for them.

Led by James Kiprotich, a father of one of the suspects in the remand prison, the families said some of the suspects were fast sinking into depression following their incarceration.

“We are kindly asking Oscar Sudi to forgive our children who were involved in the unfortunate incident where his Club was looted and destroyed by a group of youth during the anti-finance Bill on June 25,” pleaded Kiprotich.

According to Kiprotich, the families are too poor to meet the bond terms given by the court.  The families had come for the mention of the case where the Presiding Magistrate Kesse Cheronoh directed that the matter be mentioned on August 28.
