Zetech Sparks and Equity Hawks Women Basketball teams secured huge victories in the National League last weekend even as Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) collected two wins on the road.
Hawks got a staggering 109-22 victory over a lacklustre Kenyatta University’s Oryx. The rampant former league Champions had three players; Betty Kananu (20 pts), Cynthia Mawero (16 pts) and Rachel Akinyi (14 pts) account for half of the overall scores for the hungry Hawks.
The Bankers took steady leads in all four quarters (24-05/22-11/39-02/24-04) as the tactical Ben Oluoch led team simply showed class and power in both their offensive and defensive duties.
As for Oryx,it was such a long day for them as the much experienced opponents showed them no mercy in the court with Coach Caleb Olembo left with egg on his face as his charges simply lacked the firepower to do much in the one-sided game.
In another unbalanced Women’s game,Sparks also ran riot in a 94-36 spanking over TH3 Swish at the Nyayo Gymnasium Sunday. Sparks came to the party with venom as they dominated their opponents from start to finish in a display of clinical finishing and discipline even in defence.
The victors key players in the job included the trio of Madina Okot (18 points),Beryl Aoko (16 points) and Chantal Kiyobe (12 points) were the mainstay in that match as they combined for 46 points. In the four quarters; (26-12/26-04/17-11/25-09),Sparks proved well in charge and rarely got threatened.
The opponents had their few and in-between moments via the likes of Shalom Gacheri and Mitchell Wahome.
In their second game of the weekend,Sparks won by a 10 point margin (57-47) against Storms in a close duel as once again the usual suspects including Madina Okot (14 pts),Chantal Kiyobe and Christine Akinyi both scored 12 points.Storms on their part had Lindsey Mandako (12 points) and Barbra Diana (14 points) were the to go-to players in the exciting contest.
