Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego has made it clear that his desire this year is to win the elusive Olympic gold medal.

Yego who won silver in the 2016 Olympics, after a stunning performance a year earlier when he became world champion during the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, said that 2020 was not a good year for him, as he was not able to compete as he had planned.

“Coronavirus  affected my training plans. Fields were closed, and even though there were some local competitions, I didn’t take part in them because they were inconsequential to my preparations towards my Olympic plans.

So, I decided to train with the main focus on this year’s Olympics after being postponed last year,” the YouTube athlete said.

He said that prior to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, his main aim in 2020 was to become the Olympic champion, considering that in 2016 he was closer to his dream after winning silver.

“For now, I want to intensify training as I pray to God to keep me healthy so that when I go to Tokyo I compete well.

I am hopeful, I will do well, because what I’m looking forward to is to win the Olympics because this is the only competition that I’m yet to win gold,” added the Commonwealth and Africa record holder.

After the government allowed sports like athletics to resume, Yego embarked on rebuilding his stamina and technical part of the game .
