World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech has confirmed that she will skip the Eugene Diamond League meeting on August 21 due to an injury.

Chepkoech who was one of the front-runners at the concluded Tokyo Olympics finished a disappointing seventh after clocking 9:16.33.

“I’am still nursing an injury to the tendon and also to the lower back,my aim was to participate in the Preffontaine Classic Eugene Diamond League, but I will not make it.

Either way, I will now relax as I recover and hope to come back stronger for training ahead of the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA,” Chepkoech told People Sport.

Chepkoech owns the world record at 8:44.32 along with the latest global title the 2019 World Championships in Doha and the last two Wanda Diamond League titles (2018 and 2019).

She has an impressive collection of fast times, and her 7 sub-9:00 performances account for half of the world’s all-time total of 14.

Among those is the fastest on U.S. soil at 8:55.58, winning the Pre Classic in 2019.

Chepkoech destroyed the world record in 2018 at 8:44.32. It was just one of a record four sub-9 clockings that year to give her a career total of five of history’s 12 such barrier breakers.

She won the IAAF Diamond League title and earned a second-straight No. 1 world ranking by Track & Field News.

Apart from the water and jumps race, Chepkoech has also run 800m, 2,000m steeplechase, 3000m, half marathon and 1500m in which she won a bronze medal at the 2015 African Games in Brazzaville, Congo and clinched silver at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in 2017.
