Women’s Champions to stay joint premier league leaders after Bunyore tie
Defending Women Premier League champions Vihiga Queens are not slowing down just yet as they seek to clinch another title, albeit, in a very competitive fashion campaign.
Queens won 1-0 over neighbours Bunyore Starlets courtesy of a Janet Moraa seventh-minute goal at Mumias Complex yesterday.
The end-to-end game offered the fans great cheer and entertainment as both sides exerted themselves in the game.
The slim win takes the Westerners to 37 points but with a slightly lower goal difference. Thus far, Queens have won 12 matches in 16 games played and have a goal difference of 30.
As for Starlets, they are stuck in seventh place with 19 points off 16 matches. They only have won four times in the process with a goal difference of five.
Defensive lapse
In another game, Wadadia proved too strong for Kisumu All-Starlets 4-1 to move to sixth place with 29 points. Laura Atsabina had a brace in the 30th and 40th minute and Jackline Chesang pair in the 67th and 88th minute.
The Lakeside team had their consolation in the 44th minute of play through a Beverline Adika after a defensive lapse.
All-Starlets are in eighth place with 17 points from 16 matches. They have won five times this campaign with a goal difference of 1. Wadadia on their part have won nine times thus far in the season with a goal difference of seven.
Caught off-guard
Elsewhere, Nakuru City Queens got the best of lowly Kayole Starlets 1-0 courtesy of a goal by Jaef Salano in the 47th minute. Bottom-placed Starlets surprisingly held their own and were only caught off guard once.
Queens are now on 31 points off 16 matches with nine wins in the league so far. As for Starlets, their woes this season continue as they sit right at the heart of relegation with only three points having won only once in 16 matches with a staggering -62 goal difference.
In the biggest scoreline of the weekend, Zetech Sparks thumped relegation-bound Kangemi Ladies 10-0 at the GEMS Cambrideg Grounds Saturday. Two players had hat tricks with one other having a pair.
Yvonne Kavere had three goals in the 26th minute,60th minute and 88th minute just like Puren Alukwe in the 58th minute, 69th minute and 90th minute.
Pauline Naise had a brace scoring in the 75th minute and 91st minute while both Monalizer Anyoro and Violet Otieno also weighed in with their own goals inside 44 minutes and 63 minutes of play. This was one of the highest scores by a single team this campaign and it pushes Sparks to 16 points and ninth on the log with a goal difference of 11.
