Women league champions Vihiga Queens crowned
Vihiga Queens are the 2021/22 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League after shutting down Bunyore Starlets 2-1 to finish the season unbeaten and on 60 points and go home one million shilling richer.
This was the fourth Championship for the Western bigwigs in five years making them the most successful female club in the country. Topister Situma scored both goals in each half to take her season tally to17.
She is the top scorer this campaign season and goes home with the golden boot and a Sh 300,000 award.
There were only five matches played with two walkovers witnessed. Gaspo Women and Trans Nzoia Falcons game was not played.
In a huge clash held at Mumias Complex, Wadadia earned a point against visitors Thika Queens in the duel that ended in a 1-1 draw. Wadadia finished the season with 24 points and safe eighth place while the Thika ladies finished fourth with 36 points.
Elsewhere, Kisumu All-Starlets FC finished the league securely following a 1-0 win over hosts Kayole Starlets. The Lakeside-based Starlets ended the campaign on 23 points and seven wins in 22 matches played.
Kayole Starlets on their part are already relegated finishing on 19 points after a woeful season. The match played at Stima Club in Nairobi however had its fair share of drama with fans of Kayole storming the pitch after Kisumu’s goal.
This prompted the referee to call off the game where Kisumu got full points on the road. All the match officials vacated the pitch in a show that left many in awe.
In another match, Zetech Sparks FC came from behind to force a 3-3 draw past Ulinzi Starlets at GEMS Cambridge Grounds in Nairobi. The highly entertaining encounter seemed to mostly favour the soldiers and at around the 75th minute, they were comfortably leading 3-1.
However, Zetech had other ideas and rallied back brilliantly with two solid goals to ensure they shared the spoils. The result means that Ulinzi finish on 43 points and are second on the log while Zetech finished on 36 points and fifth on the standings.
