Winners, MVPs named as Kipchumba Karori tourney concludes
By Luke Oluoch, December 22, 2025The crème de la crème of the Kipchumba Karori tournament were on Sunday, December 21, 2025, feted as the curtain closed down on the second edition of the tournament.
The General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Pipeline Ladies team struck gold in the championship to extend their respective cruises in elite volleyball games.
The victorious sides both headig home with the ultimate prize money of Ksh 1 million for their travails.
The Oilers were crowned women’s senior champions after dispatching DCILadies in a straight-sets victory, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-20.
Arch rivals KCB Volleyball ladies wrapped up the podium finish with a third-place slot.
On the individual awards, Pipeline’s opposite hitter Loice Simiyu, who proved a hit in the women’s volleyball team, claimed the ultimate honours by taking home the MVP award in the female category.
Simiyu and Kimaru bag MVP
Simiyu was in her offensive best, bringing out her A-game in the final against the sleuths as Geoffrey Omondi’s charges laid down their intention in style.
The best libero player was won by Nyongesa Celestine of Kenya Pipeline, with Glady Ereng being named as the best middle blocker.
DCI duo Sarah Namisi and Corporal Mercy Iminza were crowned the tournament’s best outside hitter and opposite attacker, respectively.
The sleuths team received a first runner-up trophy and a cash reward of Ksh500,000.
GSU dominates men’s show
In the male category, the General Service Unit (GSU) continued its dominance in the Kenyan elite men’s volleyball by flipping the script on Chema Volleyball Club.

The reigning Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) League Champions maintained their cruise and dominance by edging the top league debutants from Juja 3-1 to clinch the overall title.
The paramilitary stellar performance was further reflected in the individual awards: Joshua Kimaru was crowned Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Moses Kamau of Chema Volleyball Club was named the best server in the men’s category.
The club also won the best opposite crown and best middle blocker, with Wesley Limo and Levis Ogutu clinching the gong, respectively.
Rwanda-based Denis Esokon, who turned up for Kenya Prisons, took home the best outsider hitter award as Hudson Kipchumba of GSU claimed the best libero.
The second edition of the volleyball tournament had thousands of athletes, officials, and supporters, with 180 teams registering for the games.
