By , June 24, 2023

The FKF Premier League title race is set to reach its climax on Sunday, June 25, 2023, as the final fixtures of the season will be played across nine venues.

The situation brings back memories of the thrilling 2012 season, where three teams were in contention for the prestigious trophy.

Gor Mahia lose 2012 race

AFC Leopards and Tusker, both with 57 points, entered the final day trailing Gor Mahia by just one point.

In a must-win situation, Tusker secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Nairobi City Stars at the Hope Centre, putting the pressure on Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to secure wins in their respective matches.

In the end, Tusker emerged victorious and clinched their eighth title on the ultimate day of the season.

Here is a breakdown of the final-day permutations for the top teams:

Gor Mahia:

  • Gor Mahia will be crowned champions if they defeat Nairobi City Stars on the final day.
  • They can also win the league if they draw and Tusker draw or lose. In the case of Gor Mahia losing and Tusker drawing, they will tie on 67 points, but Gor Mahia have a superior point differential.
  • If their closest challenger Tusker lose, they will be champions regardless of the final day’s result.

Tusker FC:

  • Tusker will retain the title if they beat relegated Vihiga Bullets and Gor Mahia loses to Nairobi City Stars. They must secure a win to lift the trophy, as a draw wouldn’t be enough.
  • They will the title if they win and Gor Mahia pick a draw

Kenya Police FC:

  • Kenya Police’s impressive season sees them in contention for a second-place finish on the log.
  • They will finish second if they win and Tusker lose as they have a superior goal difference.
  • They stay third if they win and Tusker wins, or they lose and their closest challenger Nzoia also loses.
  • However, they can drop to as low as fifth if they lose and Nzoia Sugar and KCB win.

Nzoia Sugar:

  • Despite a strong campaign, Nzoia Sugar’s hopes of clinching the title were dashed by a recent 2-0 loss to KCB.
  • The best they can now achieve is third place. They will finish third if they win and Police draw or lose.

Other FKF Premer league positions

Other teams in the league have their own battles to fight on the final day. Bandari will settle for sixth place, Kakamega Homeboyz and AFC Leopards are tied on 48 points and will be battling for the seventh spot, while Ulinzi Stars could climb above both sides if they win and the two sides lose.

The relegation picture has also been decided, with Mathare United and Vihiga Bullets are relegated, while Wazito will participate in the relegation playoffs.
