Wanyore promises explosive action as rugby action shifts to Prinsloo circuit

Nakuru Rugby Football Club (RFC) has promised an explosive encounter as the second leg of the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit moves to Nakuru for the Prinsloo Circuit.

The subsequent circuit to be hosted at the Nakuru Athletic Club from Saturday, August 2, 2025, to Sunday, August 3, 2025, comes after the conclusion of the drama-filled Driftwood 7s in Mombasa, where KCB Rugby narrowly edged Strathmore Leos 15-14 to claim the title.

Bittersweet moments

Simon Wariuki’s team has a bittersweet moment in the Driftwood Sevens as their campaign ended at the semifinal stage.

They served one of the upsets of the event with their main Cup quarter-final elimination of Kenya Harlequins only to bow out against Strathmore Leos, who emerged as the 2025 finalists.

The result effectively ended Quins’ quest for an unprecedented record-extending 14th Driftwood title.

Hottest Stop

The club has, however, been quick to shift focus as the next action comes to the home lair, the Nakuru Athletics Club.

“The countdown hits single digits, and Suguta Valley is already rumbling! From clean sidesteps to monster hits, #Prinsloo7s2025 is set to be the hottest stop on the circuit,” the club said in a statement.

In the pooling revealed on Monday, July 28, 2025, the host has been placed in a tough-looking Group A, where they will renew rivalry against Harlequins.

Other teams in the group include the Stallions and MSC Rugby.

Prinsloo holders, Strathmore Leos, straight from a heartbreaking final defeat to KCB, will be out to prove a point after narrowly missing out on the Driftwood crown.

They scholars will feature in Group B alongside Menengai Oilers, Daystar Falcons, and Zetech Oaks.

The Leos have shown strong form and will be favourites to top the pool, but the Oilers will pose a real challenge.

Meanwhile, KCB RFC, who remain unbeaten in the 2025 series after their victories over Menengai Oilers, Kabras, and Strathmore, headline this group.

The Bankers will face Nondescripts, CUEA (Catholic Monks), and Kisumu RFC. With star players like Floyd Wabwire and Elvis Olukusi and new entrant George Ooro in form, the Bankers will be confident of another strong performance.

Pool D

Kabras Sugar RFC, who claimed third place at Driftwood after beating Nakuru 21-10, lead this pool. They are joined by MMUST, Impala RFC, and Mwamba RFC. Kabras will look to build momentum and challenge for the top prize after falling short in Mombasa.

Fixtures and the full match schedule are expected to be released in the coming days. All eyes will be on whether KCB can continue their dominant run, or if Leos, Kabras, or even a surprise team can upset the odds.
