Wahome shines at Jamhuri round three of Motorcross Championship
Neo Wahome was in a class of his own in the MX 125 class at the Jamhuri Race Track on Sunday after winning all heats against Tanav Choda in Round Three of the National Motocross Championship.
His track mastery and speed at the bends was what benefitted him hugely against his formidable opponent. Choda had at times made bad miscalculations and this caused him big even as he chased down his challenger whom they are separated by a small margin in the overall standings. Wahome was especially fast in straight line and this made up for the good gaps and lap times he posted overall. Thevtrackn was also conducive as there was no dust due to previous rainfall on the surface. For his troubles, Wahome picked 60 points after amazing 20 points per heat with Choda on 51 points and third finisher Ryan Tiren on 45 points.
In another thriller-the MX 65cc Class, Kigen Mutuma was on point with a three heat win amidst a heavy challenge. Flying fast on his KTM Bike no 220, Mutuma ensured his pace on the gears was spot on and his gap over his charges was manageable and defendable. His starts were also great and that helped with his times set. He picked 60 points. Following him closely was Dylan Hatanga and Mathenge Kamundia who completed the podium spots with 47 points and 45 points respectively. The one lao sign and the race for the chequered flag for all heats was colorful and blissful with great camaraderie at the finish line between the competitors who are friends of the track.
The MX 50 Class also had some good racing that wowed the crowd at the stands. Berry Notea and Jayden Weru were literally on each other’s shadows in all heats but the former clinched top spot overall after amassing 55 points against 52 points for Weru.
Notea won two heats but struggled a bit in the second heat where he took third place this costing him some valuable points at the end. Weru on his part mixed his plate quite a bit with a second place finish in the top heat, first place in the second heat and third in the final heat.
In the mixed MX 2 and MX 1 classes, Alex Kandie and Apollo Mbuki were the standout riders winning in their respective races and collecting 60 points. Other key performers in the event were Rohan Gandhi and Walter Kuria who however could not match the front duo.
