Wahome shines at Jamhuri
MX-1 and MX-125 cc Sunday classic races stole the limelight at the National Motocross Championship-Round 6 at Jamhuri Motocross Track at the weekend.
The Mx-125cc saw five riders compete in three classifications with one of them retiring from the showcase.
Neo Wahome was spectacular with his KM125 bike as he cruised through the corners under chilly weather.
Wahome’s precision and timing was advantageous with his top speed lanes across the laps quite a marvel to watch.
He clinched all three heats, earning 60 points to emerge second to none in the category.
The runner-up Tanav Choda kept pace with Wahome but later lost flare and for all his earlier efforts, he put 51 points in the bag.
Mali Mburu had her own good moments on the track but ultimately had to settle for third place with 45 points.
In the same race, Ivanca Yongo encountered teething problems from the start with a heat one fourth place, her best showing of the day.
The follow-up heats were too involving for her just and did not have a choice but prematurely ended her participation following multiple mechanical issues which affected her bike.
Visiting rider Anthony Bender could not be classified due to nationality rules.
In the MX-1 Class, Rolf Kihara demonstrated his battle-hardened nature with a dominant performance at the tracks and had to shrug off stiff challenges from Walter Kuria.
Kihara, a two time national champion, put in a sizzling show in all heats with his breathtaking overtakes and spins off bumps being the highlight.
He earned 60 points for his troubles winning in all heats with Kuria emerging second overall with 51 points.
Githuku Mungai emerged third with his bike not offering quite what he needed in terms of pace but nonetheless collected 45 points.
The race was combined with the MX-2 Class which had eccentric rider Alex Kandie winning all heats as well and picking 60 points.
“I enjoyed myself as the track was in tip-top shape. I encountered a bit of slimy areas and bumps but all the same, I cannot complain. For me, I am just having fun since I am out of competition due to school commitments in the United Kingdom. The weather also made the bike operate at optimum since it was not overheating like during the sunny days. I just want to help inspire the young ones, ”stated Kihara.
In the MX-85 Class, Wahome Mutahi was the star of the show but had to give his all to make a breakthrough and especially when the chasing pack piled pressure on him albeit with little success.
Mutahi had good riding skills to stir the crowd and ultimately win the first two heats although he was unlucky in the third which saw him settle for the third place.
