Waburi tops 140 competitors to claim Legendary Golf tourney victory

G.G. Waburi clinched victory at the Legendary Golf Tournament held at the Kiambu Golf Course, finishing with an impressive 39 stableford points against a competitive field of 140 top amateur golfers.

Playing off a handicap of 17, he demonstrated his skills on the challenging par 72 course.

Waburi credited his strong start on the front nine for his overall success, stating, “Kiambu is always a challenging course, but I came prepared. Having an incredible team of players who pushed me to do my best helped me. My swing was on point, which contributed significantly to my score, giving me an excellent first nine and an okay back nine.”

In the men’s category, Muchemi Gachugi secured the title with 37 points, narrowly edging out Boniface Mureithi on countback to emerge as the overall men’s winner.

Mary Kimemia triumphed in the ladies’ competition, carding 38 stableford points off a handicap of 15.

Ann Ngumba followed in second with 33 points, while Anne Njambi took the subsidiary prize with an impressive 43 points despite her higher handicap of 47.

Reflecting on her victory, Kimemia noted, “The amount of work I’ve put in made me confident about today. I am elated because this win reflects my passion for the game.”

Mercy Maina, playing off a handicap of 51, was recognized as the guest winner with 41 points. Additional awards were presented to Henry Kirika (handicap 21) and Billy Odera (handicap 20), who carded 21 and 19 points, respectively, for their performances on the first and second nine.

Daniel Salaton and Grace Kibe claimed the nearest-to-the-pin honours in their categories, while Nahashon Mburu and Laura Koki received awards for the longest drives in the men’s and ladies categories.
