Defending Champions General Service Unit (GSU) alongside Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) both had successful weekends in the 4th leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation-National League played at Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium.

GSU showed their grit and might with two wins after downing Prisons Nairobi 3-0 (25-13/25-20/25-10).

The Red Berets had it easy especially at the net with most of their blocks and spikes earning points.

Prisons only had a strong showing in the second set pushing their challengers all the way but some poor hits cost them eventually. GSU utilized their experience and also brought in some great substitutions to help them through to an important win.

In their second game – held the following day – GSU survived a scare but eventually came out on top 3-1 against another heavyweight, Kenya Army.

The game was tight as evidenced by the scores margins (25-19/25-17/23-25/25-21).

Kenya Army were for all intents and purposes a no-pushover as they took their opportunities in stride. Their service was generally good but could have done better with the blocking department. As for GSU, their all-out approach was what really worked as they ensured the balance of strike and defence worked even though at some rare moments, they lost unnecessary points but ultimately pushed through.

Meanwhile KPA on their part also had two crucial victory parties after their wins over Kenya Defense Forces and Vihiga County in a span of two days. KPA’s first game against KDF was by far the tightest of the weekend (25-22/24-26/25-23/23-25/11-15) in a result that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

KPA won by only three points in the first set to win in what was a thriller but KDF restored normalcy with a cliffhanger score of two advantage points. It was a seesaw of similar nature up until the decider that was determined by four score points of 15-11.

However, after some technical adjustments, KPA recovered to brilliantly defeat Vihiga County without as much of a fuss. The win (25-12/25-17/25-16) saw the Dockers keep abreast of the title contest after losing out in the finals last season.

Vihiga had attempted to change course in the second and third sets but were outsmarted by the aggressiveness of KPA and execution of points.

The good service from the base was also evident as the Westerners failed to read the play well enough.

In other results, Kenya Army saw off Administration Police-Kenya by a score of 3-1 (25-15/25-14/21-25/25-23) in another fiercely contested duel especially in the last two sets. The Army side started relatively well picking the opening two sets in quick succession but slackened a bit allowing AP to come back into the game.

TrailBlazers also had an interesting battle with Kenya Forestry Service Friday in their 3-1 (25-18/24-16/25-20/25-18) win as the Prisons derby pitting Prisons Kenya and Prisons Western saw the former clinch it 3-0 ( 25-20/25-18/25-12).
